Multiplicity and transverse-momentum dependence of two- and four-particle correlations in pPb and PbPb collisions

چکیده

Measurements of twoand four-particle angular correlations for charged particles emitted in pPb collisions are presented over a wide range in pseudorapidity and full azimuth. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 31 nb−1, were collected during the 2013 LHC pPb run at a nucleon-nucleon center-ofmass energy of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment. The results are compared to 2.76 TeV semi-peripheral PbPb collision data, collected during the 2011 PbPb run, covering a similar range of particle multiplicities. The observed correlations are characterized by the near-side (|∆φ| ≈ 0) associated pair yields and the azimuthal anisotropy Fourier harmonics (vn). The second-order (v2) and third-order (v3) anisotropy harmonics are extracted using the two-particle azimuthal correlation technique. A four-particle correlation method is also applied to obtain the value of v2 and further explore the multiparticle nature of the correlations. Both associated pair yields and anisotropy harmonics are studied as a function of particle multiplicity and transverse momentum. The associated pair yields, the four-particle v2, and the v3 become apparent at about the same multiplicity. A remarkable similarity in the v3 signal as a function of multiplicity is observed between the pPb and PbPb systems. Predictions based on the color glass condensate and hydrodynamic models are compared to the experimental results. Femtoscopy with Identified Hadrons in pp, pPb, and PbPb Collisions in CMS

Abstract: Short-range correlations of identified charged hadrons in pp ( √ s = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV), pPb (sNN = 5.02 TeV), and peripheral PbPb collisions ( sNN = 2.76 TeV) are studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. Charged pions, kaons, and protons at low momentum and in laboratory pseudorapidity |η| < 1 are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The two-particle correlati...

Evidence for transverse-momentum- and pseudorapidity- dependent event-plane fluctuations in PbPb and pPb collisions

A systematic study of the factorization of long-range azimuthal two-particle correlations into a product of single-particle anisotropies is presented as a function of pT and η of both particles and as a function of the particle multiplicity in PbPb and pPb collisions. The data were taken with the CMS detector for PbPb collisions at √ sNN = 2.76 TeV and pPb collisions at√sNN = 5.02 TeV, covering...

Probing novel long-range correlation phenomena in pPb collisions with identified particles at CMS

Observation of a long-range near-side two-particle correlation (known as the Ridge) in high-multiplicity pp and pPb collisions opened up new opportunities of exploring novel QCD dynamics in small collision systems. To further investigate the origin of this phenomenon, studies of two-particle correlations with identified K s and Lambda trigger particles in 5.02 TeV pPb collisions are presented, ...

Long-range two-particle correlations of strange hadrons with charged particles in pPb and PbPb collisions at LHC energies

Measurements of two-particle angular correlations between an identified strange hadron (KS or Λ/Λ) and a charged particle, emitted in pPb collisions, are presented over a wide range in pseudorapidity and full azimuth. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 35 nb−1, were collected at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy ( √ sNN ) of 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector...
